Vape

What is it? A mild central nervous system stimulant.

What does it look like? An electronic cigarette (vape).

How is it used? By inhalation.

Someone might choose to vape to…

  • feel more awake and energized

  • stimulate their senses

  • reduce stress and/or fatigue

  • relax

However, vaping can also…

  • increase your heart rate

  • cause restlessness, anxiety, or confusion

  • stain your teeth

  • cause headaches or diarrhea

  • affect your sense of taste and smell

  • leave you feeling short of breath or nauseous

  • cause bad breath

  • lead to insomnia

  • make you feel dizzy or lightheaded

Tolerance (needing more to achieve the same effect) develops quickly. Nicotine addiction can be very difficult to overcome. Stopping nicotine use from vaping may lead to withdrawal symptoms, including general discomfort, increased appetite, anxiety, constipation, anger, depression, intense nicotine cravings, dizziness, fatigue, high blood pressure, insomnia, irritability, headaches, nausea, nervousness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, sadness, tremors, and hormonal changes.

Vapes are not the first choice when it comes to giving up smoking, and the substances inside are burnt in exactly the same way as in a cigarette. Furthermore, there are no manufacturing standards. The components of the product are unknown, whether it is the device, the liquid, or the nicotine concentration. The nicotine level does not always match the amount indicated on the label.

If you vape…

  • Make sure your vape comes from an authorized retailer and avoid counterfeit or illegal products.

  • Refrain from keeping your vape in your hand all the time to avoid vaping mindlessly.

  • Follow the laws and regulations related to vaping (e.g,, do not vape indoors where it is prohibited).

  • Set limits for yourself and be mindful of how much you use.
